Roof Repair and Roof Replacement in Orrville, OH
We're based in Wayne County too. We check older roofs from the deck up, show you the photos and tell you plainly whether it's a repair or a new roof.
Free inspection. We show you what we find.

Older houses, a historic downtown and a lot of rentals
Orrville's housing runs older. Census estimates put about one in five homes in the city at 1939 or earlier, and about a third before 1960. On a house that age, the deck, the chimney and the flashing usually tell the real story, not the shingles you can see from the street.
About 38 percent of occupied homes here are rented. Whether you live in the house or rent it out, you get the same free inspection, the same photos and a free written estimate you can plan around.
We're based in Apple Creek, also in Wayne County. Orrville sits about nine miles east of Wooster, and the people who inspect your roof and the crew that fixes it work for the same family-run company.

What we check on older Orrville roofs
With about a third of the city's homes built before 1960, these are the problems Mervin looks for first.
Soft or rotted decking
The boards under the shingles can rot over the winter while the shingles on top still look fine. On a re-roof we check every board and replace the bad ones.
Spaced decking
Some older homes have pine boards with gaps between them. By code, shingles can't go over that, so the whole roof gets re-sheeted first. See roof replacement.
Chimney grout and flashing
The flashing can be fine while cracked chimney grout lets water in behind it. We look at the chimney itself, not only the flashing. More on roof repair.
Leaks that drip out the soffit
Water running down the deck often drips out at the overhang instead of reaching a ceiling. A stained overhang is often the first sign; see soffit repair.
Your free inspection
Mervin climbs the roof. He checks the deck, flashing, chimney and roof edge.
You see the photos. He walks you through what he found.
You get a straight answer. Repair, replacement or nothing at all, with a free written estimate.

The August 2013 tornado
In August 2013, the National Weather Service confirmed an F1 tornado in Orrville, with winds around 95 mph. Part of a house roof was torn off and trees came down. No one was hurt.
Most storms are smaller than that, and the damage is harder to see. Wind breaks the seal on shingles and bends flashing loose. Hail bruises shingles and dents gutters. A free storm damage inspection tells you whether anything is wrong. Once you choose us, we share photos and documentation with your insurance company, and your insurer decides the claim.
Roofing and exterior services
Roofing comes first. On an older house, the gutters, fascia and soffit often show the first signs of a leak at the roof edge, so we look at them on the same visit.

Orrville roofing questions
Local answers before you book.
Do I need a building permit for roof work in Orrville?
The city issues zoning certificates only. Building permits are issued by the Wayne County Building Department, 428 West Liberty Street in Wooster, (330) 287-5525. Call the county department to confirm what your project needs.
Do roofers have to register with the city?
No. The city says it does not require contractors to register with the city. Either way, we're licensed, insured, and bonded.
Do you work on buildings in the downtown historic district?
We can inspect them. The Orrville Downtown Historic District, along Market Street, was listed on the National Register in 2011. Many commercial buildings have low-slope or flat roofs; our commercial roofing page explains how we approach them. Most of our work is on homes.
Do you work on rental properties?
Yes. About 38 percent of the city's occupied homes are rented, per Census estimates. The inspection, photos and written estimate work the same whether you live in the house or rent it out.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most of our replacements are one-day jobs. If an older house has spaced decking that needs re-sheeting, it can take longer. When a job needs a second day to be done right, it gets one.
