A newer city with an old square at its center

Census estimates put Medina's median build year at 1983. About 31 percent of homes were built from 1970 through 1989, and only about one in five predates 1960.

Some of those houses may still have the roof they were built with. Others are likely on their second. Either way, age alone doesn't decide it. The deck, the flashing and whether your shingle can still be matched tell you more, and that's what Mervin checks before he writes up a roof replacement estimate.

The exception is the center of town. The Medina Public Square Historic District was listed on the National Register in 1975, and the city has 13 National Register listings in all, including homes on East Washington Street, North Broadway and South Prospect Street.

We're based in Apple Creek, in Wayne County, which borders Medina County to the south.

What moves the price of a new roof

We don't post prices, because no two roofs are the same. The free written estimate gives you the real number. Here's what moves it.

  • Size of the roof

More squares means more material and more labor.

  • Condition of the deck

Rotted boards, or spaced decking that needs re-sheeting, add to the job.

  • Flashing and chimney work

Failed flashing or cracked chimney grout gets fixed as part of the roof, not left for later.

  • Warranty level

Standard Owens Corning limited lifetime coverage, or the upgraded option with full coverage on materials for 50 years.

  • Roof and siding together

Bundles are available when we do the whole exterior.

Financing is available, including a 12-months-same-as-cash option. Terms are reviewed with your written estimate. Check financing.

Medina roofing questions

What to know before you book.

Do you work on older homes near Public Square?

Yes. The Public Square Historic District has been on the National Register since 1975, and several listed homes are nearby, on East Washington Street, North Broadway and South Prospect Street. Older houses can hide rotted or spaced decking under the shingles, and Mervin checks for both. If you're not sure what your project needs, check with the city's building department before work starts.

My house was built in the 1980s. Does it need a new roof?

Not necessarily. If the deck is solid and the damage is in one area, a repair may be all you need. If the deck is soft in several places, or your shingle is discontinued and can't be matched, replacement usually makes more sense. Mervin shows you the photos and tells you which.

Have storms damaged roofs in Medina County?

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado near Spencer in August 2023 that caused minor shingle damage, and EF-1 tornadoes in Brunswick and in the Valley City and Hinckley area in 2014. Those were county events, not in the city itself. After wind or hail near you, a free storm damage inspection tells you whether your roof took a hit.

I live outside the city. Do you still come out?

Medina County borders Wayne County, where we're based. If your town isn't on our service areas list, call us. If you're within reasonable driving distance, we'll likely still take the job.
