Apple Creek is home base

Most of our town pages explain how we serve a place from Apple Creek. This one doesn't have to. Our business is here in Wayne County, and every roof we look at, in Wooster or anywhere else on our list, is served from here.

Marvin started roofing at 18 and spent five years with a local roofer. In November 2015, he and his twin brother, Mervin, started Hershberger Brothers Roofing. Mervin does the inspections and estimates. Marvin leads our six-man in-house roofing crew.

The village is small, about 1,200 people and roughly 400 homes by Census counts, and the houses vary in age. About a quarter were built in 1939 or earlier. On an older house, what matters is under the shingles: the deck, the flashing and the chimney. Mervin checks those first, then tells you whether it needs roof repair or a full roof replacement.

How we work, from the people who run it

01

Mervin climbs your roof

He does the inspection and the estimate himself, takes photos and walks you through them. You see what he sees.

02

Marvin runs the crew

Our roofing crew is our own: six men, led by Marvin. We don't hand your roof to whoever bid lowest for the labor.

03

A straight answer

If a repair will do, we say so, even when a new roof would be the bigger job. We explain. You decide.

04

Licensed, insured and bonded

If something goes wrong on your property, you're not the one paying for it.

05

We don't rush

Most replacements take one day. When a job needs a second day to be done right, it gets one.

06

We leave it clean

Nails, old shingles and debris get picked up before we leave.

Missing and damaged shingles on a roof after a storm

Wind close to home

In spring 2026, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado in the Apple Creek area, near South Honeytown. Its path was short, but it lifted a carport into a front yard and dropped a tree on a home.

In November 2017, an EF-1 tornado touched down about two miles south of Wooster and tore half the roof off a historic home. That was a Wooster event, not Apple Creek, but it shows what a short burst of wind can do.

Wind lifts shingles, breaks their seal and bends flashing loose, and the water that gets in doesn't always show on a ceiling. A free storm damage inspection tells you what's up there. If you ask whether to file a claim, we tell you what we think. Your insurance company decides.

Apple Creek roofing questions

Straight answers before you book.

Are you actually based in Apple Creek?

Yes. Hershberger Brothers Roofing is at 397 Millborne Rd, Apple Creek, OH 44606. We serve Wooster and the rest of our service area from here. Call (330) 641-2552, Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM.

Should I have my roof checked after a storm like the 2026 tornado near South Honeytown?

If strong wind came through near you, a look is worth it. Wind can break the seal on shingles without tearing them off, and water can soak the deck before a stain shows inside. The inspection is free, and if nothing is wrong, we tell you that.

Do you work on the village's older homes?

Yes. Census estimates put about a quarter of the village's homes at 1939 or earlier. On a re-roof we check every deck board once the old shingles are off. Some older homes have spaced decking, pine boards with gaps between them. By code, shingles can't go over it, so we re-sheet the roof first.

I'm outside the village. Will you still come out?

Our verified towns are on the service areas page. If your town isn't listed, call us. If you're within reasonable driving distance, we'll likely still take the job.

When do you stop roofing for the winter?

We work spring through fall and shut down for winter in mid-December. If you've noticed a problem, fall is the time to get on the schedule.
